EIGHT COLOR SEPARATION

LEVIS BOYS

One in a series of faux texture designs for Levis boys. Here, I simulate the look and feel of a classic buffalo flannel print with plush inks.

Photos of vintage shirt textures with key details like the pocket and seams were carefully composited into the batwing logo. Plush inks cannot be overprinted so I prepared an index separation for the printing. Rather than overlaid halftones, the index separation recreates an image by printing tiny squares of adjacent color.

Each graphic in the series required careful planning with the printers at sampling through production. The extra effort was worth it though, as the project resulted in some truly unique printwork.
