Faux Leather Batwing
CONCEPT AND DESIGN
EIGHT COLOR SEPARATION
Developed for Levis boys, an intricate color separation designed to be printed with a raised underlay.
The design is a composite of different leather textures from book bindings to upholstery. The Levis brand mark is recessed into the raised high density underbase. I exaggerated contrast and shadow in the artwork, pushing the illusion of depth even further.
I suggested low meshes for the underlays and higher numbers for the overprints. The printer carefully controlled the amount of puff, balancing the effect with the need to hold detail. The resulting print is extremely convincing, inviting the customer to reach out and touch it.
