Faux Back Patch
CONCEPT AND DESIGN
EIGHT COLOR SEPARATION
LEVIS BOYS
To recreate the leather back patch from the best selling 501 Levis Jean, I first visited a vintage store photographing dozens of back patches on denim jeans and jackets.
These textures were layered and details enhanced to create a realistic illustration of the leather. I designed a tonal color separation built on a high density base to create a thick leather like underbase. High meshes were used to create a smooth printing surface.
Close work with both the sample printer in China and production facilities in Egypt was needed to accurately reproduce the design. The finished piece sold over 200 thousand units.
